December Newsletter!
As we welcome a new year, we extend our warmest wishes to our donors, volunteers, beneficiaries, and our incredible staff members and their families. May this year bring you prosperity, success, and countless blessings.
This year marked a historic blessing for Syrians: the end of six decades of dictatorship. In just the past 14 years, this regime left a devastating toll—displacing over 13.5 million Syrians, with more than 6.8 million refugees fleeing their homeland and 6.7 million internally displaced. Over 1.2 million homes were destroyed, countless families were torn apart, and over 130,000 detainees remain unaccounted for. Tragically, more than 500,000 lives have been lost.
At Mozaic, we honored this monumental moment by gathering in prayer, singing songs of hope, and sharing desserts with friends of Syria. It was a day to reflect on resilience and the promise of a brighter future.
The Mozaic food pantry provided essential support to 28 families, offering food staples and, on special occasions, meat and fresh produce. In December, Medina Montessori ran a heartwarming food drive to replenish our empty shelves.
A heartfelt thank you to Aya Montessori, AlFatih Academy, and all the incredible parents and students who contributed to our winter drive! Your generosity brought warmth and comfort to newly arrived refugee families, helping them navigate the challenges of starting over in a new place.
This December, we also hosted a Free Market for Refugees, where families shopped for free from gently used, high-quality donated items, including brand-name clothing and essentials. Thanks to our amazing donors, the market was open twice in December, offering dignity and joy to those in need. Following this, our Chic Charity Thrift Store opened to the public, giving the community a chance to shop for great finds while supporting a meaningful cause.
Mozaic was invited to the International Monetary Fund building in DC sharing our Professional Development Program and empowering communities through education and growth.
Mozaic hosted three sessions of Professional Career Development Workshops with career coach Nidal Khaznadar at the Mozaic Center where our refugees learned all the do’s and don’ts of job interviews.
Mozaic is planning to relaunch its Chef Training Program for refugees in the near future and is seeking your support to make this vision a reality. With the high demand for skilled chefs in today’s market, this program will equip participants with the culinary skills and certifications needed to secure sustainable employment while celebrating their cultural heritage. Stay tuned for more details as we work to empower refugees through this exciting initiative!
Registration is open for two levels at our Mozaic Sewing Studio! This program has been a source of creativity, learning, and mental tranquility for our students, who have completed incredible projects while forming meaningful bonds. The addition of an advanced level is in response to the overwhelming enthusiasm of our previous class, offering participants the chance to further refine their skills. Don’t miss the opportunity to join this inspiring community!
Our ESL class recently enjoyed a field trip to the Sterling Library, where they explored the wealth of resources available to support their learning journey. Students signed up for new library cards and discovered services like free ESL materials, digital literacy tools, job search resources, and cultural programs. This trip was an exciting step toward fostering independence and connecting our students with valuable community resources!

Mozaic furnished two homes, creating warm and welcoming spaces for newly arrived Syrian and Iraqi families, both are single mothers with their children. These homes are now places of comfort and hope, helping families feel embraced and supported as they begin their new journeys. Thanks to all donors who donated their great in shape furniture and who purchased household items from theTarget lists.
