October 2024 Newsletter

Dear Mozaic Community,

October has been an incredible month of growth and community engagement for Mozaic. We’re thrilled to share the meaningful achievements made possible by your ongoing support, and we invite you to consider a donation to keep these impactful programs alive and thriving. Here’s a look at what we accomplished this month:

Sewing Classes Begin
We’re excited to have kicked off sewing classes! Special thanks to Haniah Dahman for leading these classes and to our wonderful volunteers for transporting students to and from classes. This program has already fostered new skills and friendships.Help us expand these skill-building opportunities by donating to support sewing materials and transportation costs.

New Families Moved and Settled
This month, we helped the two new families we’re welcoming to the area move into their new home. Their children are now happily attending school, and we’ve arranged ESL classes for the family. The mother, who has a background in sewing, was also trained on how to use a sewing machine—an exciting step toward self-sufficiency!

For the other family, Mozaic has collaborated with Faith Social Services to furnish their home, ensuring a safe and comfortable space for the family of six to thrive in Virginia. Thank you to our generous donors and dedicated volunteers for coming forward to support these families.

Your contribution can make a real difference in supporting families like these on their journey to independence.

Our First 5K Run
We hosted our first 5K run on Theodore Roosevelt Island, bringing together newly arrived families and community members for a beautiful morning of health and camaraderie. Thanks to Bronislava Shmilovich, Yazan Jarrah, and all the volunteers who made it possible. A special mention goes to the boys from Pre-Academy for their energy and enthusiasm!

Sponsor future family-friendly events like this by making a donation today.

Arlington Soccerfest
Through a special invitation from Arlington Soccer, several of our beneficiary families attended Arlington Soccerfest, enjoying a day of fun and exercise. A big thank you to our outstanding volunteer Bronislava Shmilovich for securing the tickets and to our volunteers who provided transportation.

With your support, we can offer more enriching experiences for families settling in our community.

Mozaic Open House
Our Open House was a wonderful opportunity to connect with donors and community partners over a delicious Syrian brunch. We were able to share updates on our programs and the work we’ve accomplished this year, thanks to you!

Help us continue sharing Mozaic’s mission and building strong community ties by donating.

NOVACRW Event &
Mozaic attended the Northern Virginia Coalition for Refugee Wellness (NOVACRW)’s 8th Annual Conference held at George Mason University. Our team learnt more about the latest initiatives of various sister organizations and also boosted our knowledge on trauma-informed care.

College Readiness Talk by Dr. Sarah Elmasry

Mozaic hosted an impactful College Readiness Talk with Dr. Sarah Khalil Elmasry. Moms from both the community and refugee families attended, learning about college preparedness, curriculum design, and navigating the Common App. Thank you Dr Sarah for your time and dedication!

Your donation helps us provide invaluable resources like these for families planning for their future.

Foster Parenting Workshop
Led by Raghad Bushnaq, Kelly Henderson, and Rabia Mallick, we hosted a Foster Parenting Workshop. This event offered valuable insights and training for those interested in providing safe, nurturing homes for children in need.

Contributions to Mozaic support workshops that build stronger, more supportive communities for all.

Professional Career Development Workshop: Starting Soon
We’re excited to launch our Professional Career Development Workshop on November 3rd! This program prepares participants with practical skills and tools for job searching and workplace success. Limited spots are still available.

Help us empower refugees and asylum seekers on their journey to self-sufficiency with your donation.

90-Day Milestone with IRC Resettlement and Placement Program
This month marked a milestone of 90 days with the first four families we’ve supported under the IRC Resettlement and Placement Program. These families are now fully settled, attending ESL and sewing classes, and on the path to employment.

Celebrate this milestone with us by making a contribution that will allow us to support even more families.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to Mozaic. Your generosity truly makes a difference in the lives of those we serve. Please consider making a donation to help us further our mission and sustain the programs that change lives every day.

Warm regards,
The Mozaic Team
