The Welcome Corps Program is a groundbreaking initiative that empowers Americans and green card holders to play an active role in resettling and welcoming refugees into their communities. Launched by the U.S. government, this program allows individuals, families, and community groups to sponsor and support refugees as they start new lives in the United States. By participating in the Welcome Corps, community members provide vital assistance and friendship to refugees, helping them navigate their new surroundings and build a foundation for long-term success.

  • Match with a sponsor group of five or more Americans and green card holders.
  • Arrive in the U.S. with access to refugee benefits, immediate work authorization, and a clear pathway to citizenship.

This summer, thanks to private funding from the Sponsor Fund, any group who signs up to participate in the Welcome Corps can receive a grant to cover the cost of sponsoring a refugee or special immigrant visa family that they do not already know.
The attached toolkit includes messages about Welcome Corps that you can use with your community to get them excited about the program and provide specific information about how to join. Interested sponsors can attend live or on-demand support sessions or work with a sponsor coach.
We also would be happy to arrange additional information sessions with your community.

Urgent Need for Sponsors: 10,000 Syrian Refugees Ready for Resettlement There are currently 10,000 Syrian refugees who have been thoroughly vetted and are ready to come to the United States. These individuals and families have endured unimaginable hardships and are in urgent need of sponsors to expedite their resettlement process. Your support can help them find safety and start new lives in our community.

Key Aspects of Welcome Corps

Community Sponsorship:

  • Welcome Corps enables private citizens to form sponsorship groups. These groups commit to providing comprehensive support to refugee families, including housing, food, transportation, employment assistance, and social integration.

Training and Resources:

  • Sponsors receive training and resources to prepare them for their roles. This includes guidance on cultural competency, understanding the resettlement process, and best practices for providing effective support.

Financial Support:

  • Sponsorship groups are required to raise a minimum amount of funds (typically $5,000) to cover the initial resettlement costs for the refugee family. This ensures that the family has the necessary resources to start their new life.

Continuous Support:

  • The Welcome Corps Program offers ongoing assistance to sponsorship groups, helping them address any challenges and celebrate successes throughout the resettlement process.

Welcome Corps Support for Private Sponsor Organizations

  • Orientation and review of application process for prospective PSOs
  • Onboarding and training sessions
  • Access to training and resource materials and tools
  • Periodic expert-led and/or peer-facilitated technical assistance opportunities
  • Real-time, peer-to-peer experience sharing
  • PSO Council to support onboarding and mentorship of new PSOs and inform ongoing design
  • Individualized support based on location and need
  • Funding opportunities to support ongoing and capacity-building work
