New Milestone Achieved
Mozaic proudly welcomed our first two families through the IRC Resettlement and Placement Case Program (RPCP). From picking them up at the airport to finding suitable housing, signing them up for ESOL classes, and arranging their health care, we have been committed to ensuring their smooth transition and well-being.
Heartfelt Welcome from Mozaic Care
We were thrilled to welcome two Afghan families through the RPCP program in August. Securing housing for them proved to be challenging, but we successfully found two apartments in a beautiful and safe neighborhood, providing the perfect environment for them to begin rebuilding their lives.
Mozaic’s commitment goes beyond providing essentials—our list of furniture and household items includes everything needed to make their new homes comfortable and welcoming. After the hardship of being displaced and living in transitional countries, our goal was to offer not just a place to stay but a space where the families could truly feel at home.
In addition to furnishing the homes, our team worked diligently to help them navigate essential paperwork and logistics, ensuring they had access to vital services and support programs. From the homey touches we added to the apartments to the warm, personal welcome our team provided, every effort was made to ensure these families felt embraced and cared for as they transitioned into their new lives.
Critical Health Crisis
Upon their arrival, one of the refugees experienced a severe health crisis. Just a week after settling in, he suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized. The medical team promptly intervened, and he received a pacemaker to support his heart health. This challenging situation underscores the urgency of our support and the resilience of those we serve.

A Syrian Family in Transition
A recently arrived Syrian refugee family made the difficult decision to leave another state after a year, arriving in Virginia with nothing. Upon arrival, they were temporarily sheltered in a hotel by a fellow Syrian refugee. At the masjid, they connected with a generous family who welcomed them into their home, helped the father find a job, and secured a temporary apartment for them until the end of the year. On moving day, community members helped carry items from Mozaic’s storage and friends’ homes to ensure they had a comfortable space to settle into.
Although Mozaic assisted with all logistical needs, a sponsor family kindly paid for the children’s physicals and vaccinations, and another family friend raised funds to help with daily necessities. This journey has been challenging and overwhelming for the family, and despite all the support, they still struggle to navigate their new life.
Mozaic has enrolled the mother in ESL classes and remains committed to supporting the family’s integration and skill-building. We recognize the immense kindness of the DMV
community and deeply appreciate their ongoing efforts. However, to ensure smooth and efficient help, we ask for unified coordination to avoid duplicating efforts. Working together will lead to faster, more positive outcomes and help this family find stability and self-sufficiency.
We are confident that by coming together, we can continue making a meaningful impact.
Three Years of Afghan Evacuation
Three years have flown by since the harrowing evacuation from Afghanistan, and the journey for countless Afghan refugees is still unfolding. As we reflect on their incredible courage and resilience, we are reminded that their need for support remains as vital as ever.
These brave individuals and families have navigated immense challenges and uncertainty. Their stories of perseverance inspire us to continue standing by them. With your support, we can provide the essential assistance they need to rebuild their lives and find hope for a brighter future.
Join us in extending a hand of solidarity to our Afghan brothers and sisters. Your generosity can make a profound difference in their journey towards stability and renewal. Thank you for your unwavering compassion and commitment.
