In every family we support, at least 1 family member suffers from mental health challenges, help us to bring relief.
In the last 7 years, Mozaic helped 340 families in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. Some of the families we supported were Syrian refugees who fled the war and other families were from Afghanistan who were evacuated on cargo aircrafts while carrying only a few of their belongings in plastic bags.
Every single family we aided, had at least one family member who struggled with their mental health. Some struggled so severely that they required hospitalization.
Mental health challenges are a common occurrence and affect many individuals including Muslims. Refugees and domestic violence survivors are particularly vulnerable. The impact of war, loss of loved ones, displacement, and domestic abuse can take a toll on an individual’s mental health and well-being. Unfortunately, the stigma surrounding mental health can make it difficult for individuals to seek help and access the support they need.
We noticed many times how cultural barriers prevented our clients to embrace common talk therapy. We knew we needed to find alternatives to address their mental health needs.
At Mozaic, we understand how critical mental health support is for individuals who have experienced trauma and are in need of specialized care. Our team of mental health professionals has worked tirelessly to develop a range of programs and evidence-based therapies to help individuals address their mental health concerns and improve their overall well-being.
One of the programs we offer is Art Therapy, which involves using creative processes and art materials to help individuals express their emotions and work through their challenges. This approach can be particularly helpful for individuals who have difficulty verbalizing their emotions or have experienced trauma.
Life Skills Coaching is another program we offer, which helps individuals develop practical skills and strategies to navigate various aspects of their lives, such as relationships, career, and self-care. Equine-Assisted Learning is one of the means to offer an experiential learning approach to acquire such skills. Life Skills Coaching can be particularly helpful for individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns that impact their daily functioning.
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy is a form of mental health support that involves working with horses. This approach is effective in helping individuals who have experienced trauma or struggle with anxiety and depression. Equine-assisted Psychotherapy can help individuals develop better emotional regulation, increase self-awareness and improve communication and social skills.
Acupuncture is another complementary therapy we offer, which involves inserting needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the central nervous system. Acupuncture can be helpful in reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and improving overall well-being.
At Mozaic, we believe in taking a personalized approach to mental health support. Each of our programs is tailored to meet the unique needs and preferences of our beneficiaries. We work closely with qualified mental health professionals to determine the best approach for each individual and provide them with the support they need to achieve their goals.
It is important to recognize that seeking help for mental health concerns is a courageous and important step towards healing and recovery. Our team is dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for Muslim refugees and domestic violence survivors to access the mental health support they need to improve their present and shape their future.
