This summer at Mozaic, something heartwarming took shape—our teen sewing class brought together young learners and two remarkable wise women of the community, blending creativity, connection, and care in every stitch.
The class focused on teaching basic sewing skills to teenage girls, but its impact reached far beyond fabric and thread. Led by two vibrant, retired women—both passionate mentors and nurturing teachers—the program became a powerful example of how intergenerational learning strengthens community bonds. These experienced women came not just to teach, but to uplift. From the very first class, they arrived energized, prepared, and even brought homemade snacks to share, infusing every session with warmth and hospitality.
As the girls practiced their skills—threading needles, pinning fabric, and learning to sew aprons—they were also absorbing something much more lasting: respect for those who came before them, and the value of learning directly from lived experience.
During the final class, the girls put the finishing touches on their aprons, shared cupcakes, and—most moving of all—wrapped their arms around their instructors in gratitude. It was a moment of joy, appreciation, and deep connection.
At Mozaic, we believe that community is built when generations come together—not just to share skills, but to share stories, wisdom, and kindness. This class was a beautiful reminder that everyone, no matter their age, has something meaningful to offer.
